Jon Hamm Wants to Be the DCEU’s Next Batman

Ben Affleck hasn’t turned in his cape just yet, but one major Hollywood actor is already setting his sights on the role of the Caped Crusader.

Ever since Justice League, rumors have continually surfaced suggesting Affleck’s turn as Batman was essentially up. If that should ever happen, Warner Bros. won’t have to look too far for a new actor to take over the iconic role, as Mad Men‘s Jon Hamm is interested in playing the character, with one condition — the script needs to be decent.

The actor addressed both his love of comic books and the continual rumors that have surrounded him since his Mad Men days in an interview for Graham Bensinger’s In Depth. Hamm admitted that although he has never held any conversations concerning a Batman role, he’d definitely consider it if the script was good enough. “I have had rumors about that since probably season one of Mad Men,” Hamm said, addressing the rumors that he’s been up for the role in the past. “I have never had a conversation with anybody about it, literally. And I’ve sat in the room with all these guys. I have never been offered anything. I think the internet wants what it wants. But, I mean, a lot of people have to sign off on that, obviously not just the internet.”

Still, while he’s never been offered a comic book role, the actor isn’t against the possibility. As he admits, he’s been a huge comic book fan since he was a kid and thoroughly enjoyed both Marvel Studios’ Black Panther and FX’s Legion. So, if the opportunity presented itself to tackle the role of the Dark Knight, he would consider it. “I’d probably fit the suit,” he said. “I’d have to work out a lot, which I don’t love. But, I am sure there’s an interesting version of that being out there. And if they wanted to tap me on the shoulder and ask me to do it, why not?”

Recent reports have suggested the studio has approached actor Oscar Issac for a role in The Batman, although it remains unclear exactly which role was reportedly discussed. Prior reports indicated Warner Bros. was looking to cast a younger actor to replace Affleck, with Jake Gyllenhaal’s name having been tossed in the ring at one point, along with Jack Huston and the newly-rumored Kit Harrington.
