Guardians of the Galaxy’s Dave Bautista Continues to Rail Against Disney

by  in Movie News (CBR)

Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista continues to speak out against Disney’s decision last week to fire James Gunn after years-old offensive comments the filmmaker made about rape and pedophilia resurfaced.

The Drax actor was one of the first to leap to Gunn’s defense, blasting the firing on Friday in a tweet that characterized the filmmaker as  someone who is “gentle and kind and cares deeply for people and animals.” He later blamed the controversy on “cybernazis,” an apparent reference to some of Gunn’s right-wing detractors who uncovered the tweets, most of which date from 2008 to 2012, and alt-right provocateur and conspiracy theorist Mike Cernovich, who broadcast them to a larger audience.

In response to a headline that reads, “In Firing James Gunn, Disney Hurts All of Hollywood,” Bautista doubled down on his criticism, tweeting, “And then some! Never make a mistake! Don’t have a sense of humor! Don’t be politically outspoken! Etc, fucking etc!!!”

Bautista isn’t the only member of the Guardians of the Galaxy who has commented on the situation. Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Karen Gillan have tweeted more broadly about the controversy, and Michael Rooker left Twitter.

While Gunn apologized, took “full responsibility” for his old comments and accepted Disney’s decision, a fan-created petition lobbying the entertainment conglomerate to rehire the director now has more than 314,000 supporters.
