Captain Jean-Luc Picard may be back in the captain’s chair on CBS All-Access.

Fresh off the news that new Star Trek: Discovery showrunner Alex Kurtzman has extended his contract with CBS for five years, the network plans to expand the iconic sci-fi franchise’s programming with new series, animation and miniseries for its streaming service, CBS All-Access. Among the rumored proposed programs is a Star Trek reboot series starring franchise mainstay Patrick Stewart.

CBS has refused to comment, and The Hollywood Reporter reports a deal for Stewart’s return is far from complete. However, reports say the new series would have the veteran actor reprise his fan-favorite role as Jean-Luc Picard. Stewart’s Picard was a main ingredient in reinvigorating the Star Trek franchise, commanding the Enterprise across all seven seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation from 1987 to 1994. Additionally, Stewart led the new cast on the big screen in 1994’s Star Trek Generations, 1996’s Star Trek: First Contact, 1998’s Star Trek: Insurrection and 2002’s Star Trek: Nemesis.

Stewart himself has teased a possible return to the franchise that made him a household name hinting that Jean-Luc Picard may soon go where no one has gone before once again. With Kurtzman replacing Discovery showrunners Aaron Harberts and Gretchen Berg while expanding his association with the classic franchise, both the past and future of Star Trek are firmly in his hands.
