Star Trek: Discovery Gets Season Order Increase, Companion Show

Following the release of the first official trailer for Star Trek: Discovery, CBS has ordered an additional two episodes for the first season, bringing the total episode count to 15, up from the originally ordered 13. Along with the episode increase, CBS also announced that the network will be launching a new companion show entitled Talking Trek.

Talking Trek will presumably follow in the footsteps of AMC’s Talking Dead, although as of right now, details on the after-show are scarce, with the host yet to be announced. That should change, however, in the coming months as we move closer to the launch of Star Trek: Discovery.

According to Deadline, after a series of setbacks, Discovery is currently in production on its sixth episode and is still on track for a fall release on the network’s streaming service, CBS All Access.

The series, which is set a decade before the events of Star Trek, stars Sonequa Martin-Green as First Officer Michael Burnham, Jason Isaacs as Captain Lorca, Michelle Yeoh as Captain Georgiou, Doug Jones as Science Officer Lt. Saru and Anthony Rapp as astromycologist Lt. Stamets, with Rainn Wilson appearing as Harry Mudd. It is currently slated for a fall premiere on CBS and CBS All Access.
