Powers Boothe, Agents of SHIELD Actor, Has Passed Away

Renowned actor Powers Boothe has passed away at the age of sixty-eight.

The news was first reported by his friend, actor Beau Bridges, on Sunday evening. The actor’s publicist confirmed to TV Line that he died of natural causes on Sunday morning.

 

It’s with great sadness that I mourn the passing of my friend Powers Boothe. A dear friend, great actor, devoted father & husband.

Over the course of his long spanning career, Boothe had appeared in such television shows such as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Deadwood, and Philip Marlowe, Private Eye. He has also appeared in films such as Sin City, and its sequel, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

Boothe won an Emmy in 1980 in the Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Special category for his portrayal of Jim Jones in CBS’ Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones. He had also been nominated twice for the ensemble SAG Award for 1996’s Nixon and again in 2007 with the cast of Deadwood.

Over the course of his career, Boothe had gained a reputation for portraying villains with memorable roles. The actor’s most recent role was as Gideon Malick in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. where his character served as the leader of Hydra over the course of the show’s third season.
