James McAvoy Reportedly Not Appearing As Professor X In ‘New Mutants’

It seems James McAvoy will not be returning as Professor Charles Xavier in the upcoming X-Men film New Mutants from The Fault in Our Stars director Josh Boone.

Both Anya Taylor-Joy (The WitchSplit) and Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) were confirmed earlier today to have boarded the cast for New Mutants. Each star was long rumored to have been eyed for their roles along with McAvoy reprising his role as Professor X and Nat Wolff joining the franchise as Cannonball but according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Bory’s Kit, sources close to the project say that McAvoy and Wolff will not be appearing in the upcoming film. You can check out his tweets below.

On NEW MUTANTS: other rumored castings – James McAvoy as Prof X – not true. He is not in movie, per sources.

On : other rumored casting – Nat Wolff as Canonball – not happening either.

Cannonball will still be included in the film as the picture will feature the angst-driven adventures of the teen mutants including the aforementioned Cannonball along with Magik (Joy) and Wolfsbane (Williams) as well as Moonstar and lastly Sunspot, who was recently rumored to be set for an introduction in the upcoming Deadpool sequel set to debut June 1, 2018, however, Deadpool and Deadpool 2 screenwriter Rhett Reese shut that rumor down.

Production on the film is expected to begin this July with a script written by Boone along with his writing partner, Knate Gwaltney. Simon Kinberg and Karen Rosenfelt will produce the project.

New Mutants hits in theaters on April 13, 2018.
