Fox Drops the Ax on Sleepy Hollow After Four Seasons

Fox has canceled the supernatural drama Sleepy Hollow after four seasons.

Loosely based on Washington Irving’s 1820 short story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” the series premiered in 2013 to monstrous ratings, with 10 million live viewers and a 3.4 rating among adults 18-49. However, the audience faded over the years, with the drama averaging 1.9 million total viewers and a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demo by its fourth season.

Created by Alex Kurtzman (Fringe, Alias), Roberti Orci, Phillip Iscove and Len Wiseman, Sleepy Hollow starred Tom Mison starred as Ichabod Crane, a soldier in George Washington’s army during the American Revolution who’s revived in the present day alongside the Headless Horseman.

The series had undergone massive changes, from changing showrunners following the first season to killing off former lead Abbie Mills, played by actress Nicole Beharie. With the fourth, and now final, season, Janina Gavankar was added to the cast as Ichabod’s new partner Diana Thomas, and the setting moved from Sleepy Hollow, New York, to Washington, D.C. The changes were meant to kickstart a new life for the series, but it never managed to recover after Beharie’s departure.
