Would be a shame if  it was cancelled as this season has been one of their best, ably juggling multiple arcs and engaging characters. Meanwhile crappy sitcoms get renewed when well beyond their expiry dates and most fare found on network tv continues its stagnation. Ah well, there is still great programming on non-big four networks that continues to deliver. We shall see in any case….REC

Over the course of four seasons, “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” has seen a sharp decline in viewership

After premiering in 2013 to an impressive 11.9 million viewers and a 4.6 rating among adults 18-49, the ABC drama has been lucky to maintain 2 million live viewers weekly. That, naturally, had led many to wonder whether the series will return following its Season Four finale.

It seems unlikely that ABC will make an announcement before network upfront presentations in May, but that didn’t stop one fan from seeking some early news. Responding to a viewer’s question on Entertainment Weekly about a potential renewal, co-showrunner Jed Whedon revealed there’s no word just yet. However, the show’s writers are working on a season, not series, finale.

“We are going to make it a thrilling end regardless,” he said, “but we don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.”

A decision regarding the show’s fate should be revealed by May 16, when ABC takes the stage at the annual television upfronts.

Returning Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC, “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D” stars Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, Chloe Bennet as Daisy “Quake” Johnson, Ming-Na Wen as Melinda May, Iain De Caestecker as Leo Fitz, Elizabeth Henstridge as Jemma Simmons and Henry Simmons as Alphonso “Mack” Mackenzie.
