Arguably the most stellar conflagration of horrid with its final segment…maybe just let this one lie. Great franchise from inception to sequel… but final film killed it…and not in a good way. REC

Warner Bros. is in early talks to relaunch the 1999 cult-classic film “The Matrix.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, Zak Penn is in line to write a treatment with Michael B. Jordan eyed to star.

The Wachowski siblings wrote and directed the original trilogy, but are reportedly not a part of the revival. Seeing as “The Matrix” was their creation, Warner Bros. is said to “want the two filmmakers to give at minimum a blessing to the nascent project.”

The idea of making more “Matrix” films came from Joel Silver, who produced the original trilogy. However, since Silver reportedly sold all his interest to the studio for $30 million in 2012, WB wouldn’t want him to return for a reboot. According to the report,  Silver’s budget control issues and strained relationship with the Wachowskis are both concerns for the studio.

Keanu Reeves recently revealed the one condition that would have to be met for him to get involved in a new “Matrix” film. “The Wachowskis would have to be involved,” said Reeves, referring to “Matrix” trilogy directors Lana and Lilly Wachowski. “They would have to write it and direct it. And then we’d see what the story is, but yeah, I dunno, that’d be weird, but why not?”

Reeves also addressed the fact that “Revolutions” concludes with the death of his character Neo. “People die, stories don’t, people in stories don’t,” he said at the time.

“John Wick Chapter Two” includes a quasi “Matrix” reunion, as it reteams Laurence Fishburne and Keanu Reeves. The stars were also joined by fellow “Matrix” star Carrie-Anne Moss at the “John Wick Chapter Two” premiere.

Since the last “Matrix” film in 2003, the film’s stars have moved on to different franchises: Fishburne plays Perry White in the new DC cinematic universe and Moss plays Jeri Hogarth in Marvel’s Netflix series.
