THE BATMAN: AFFLECK, JOHNS WELCOME REEVES TO THE DCEU

11 hours ago by in Movie News (CBR)

It’s official: Matt Reeves is on board to direct Ben Affleck’s “The Batman.” Reeves, who is currently in post-production on “War for the Planet of the Apes,” will replace Affleck as the director on the upcoming film, though it’s expected that Affleck will remain on board to co-write the film alongside DC Entertainment President and CCO Geoff Johns.

“The Batman” has been the subject of plenty of rumors in recent months. Long before Affleck and Warner Bros. confirmed the actor would be stepping down as the film’s director, it was said that Affleck wasn’t happy with the state the film was currently in. This led to some to believe the actor would pull out of “The Batman” and leave behind his role as the caped crusader altogether. However, it appears those rumors are merely that, as Affleck took to Twitter to welcome Reeves to the Batcave, with Johns echoing the actor’s comments.

The film was originally expected to enter production this spring; however, with a shift in directors and Reeves tied up with “War for the Planet of the Apes,” production will likely be pushed back accordingly.

“The Batman” will see Affleck star as the Dark Knight alongside Jeremy Irons’ Alfred Pennyworth, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon and franchise newcomer Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke.
