Simon Kinberg In Talks To Direct The Next ‘X-Men’ Film

So much dislike is now hurled at both Bryan Singer and Simon Kinberg which I truly find baffling as essentially this team fixed previous problems which plagued the franchise. Days of Future Past made over 1 billion dollars and the Singer/Kinberg pairing were gold. Apocalypse didn’t meet key metrics and now they must be cast away in favor of someone more avant garde. Oy… REC

Simon Kinberg, who has written several of the films in the X-Men franchise, is looking to return for another go, but with a bonus. Collider is reporting that not only is Kinberg in talks to write the next film, but he is also potentially looking to directing it to, making it his directorial debut in the film world.

Kinberg started with the franchise’s third installment, The Last Stand which he co-wrote with Zak Penn. He then returned as a producer for First Class, a prequel to the original X-Men trilogy, which was then followed by the well-received Days of Future Past that gave FOX’s cinematic universe for the mutants a reboot in the timeline. Kinberg also returned for the third installment in the prequel trilogy as a producer and writer on Apocalypse.

His involvement with the X-Men isn’t just on the big screen, as he has now gotten involved with the television shows. He serves as an executive producer for both FX’s Legion which recently premiered as well as FOX’s untitled series about two ordinary parents who discover that their kids possess mutant powers as the family is now on the run. Recently Sophie Turner, who plays Jean Grey in the prequel series, stated that the production on the next film, supposedly X-Men: Supernova, is starting “soon”.

“We’re about to start shooting the next X-Men, we’ve just finished shooting Season 7 of [Game of] Thrones, and I’ve got a couple of movies to do before X-Men starts. And then we go on to Season 8.”
