James McAvoy Teases New ‘X-Men’ Project Shooting This Summer

It has been heavily rumoured that a new X-Men film will begin production this year. Because of this, it start shooting around the same time as Josh Boone’s New Mutants. The new movie has been kept under wraps for a while, with neither 20th Century Fox or X-Men godfather, Simon Kinberg revealing release dates or the film’s title. Back in January, a mysterious shooting title came up, X-Men: Supernova, which was to be an adaptation of the Dark Phoenix Saga from the comic books. X-Men: Apocalypse star, Sophie Turner, revealed in an interview that the new project will begin shooting later this year.Interestingly, James McAvoy, who stars in the series as Professor X, has been rumoured to appear in New Mutants, which is scheduled to begin production around the same time as Turner’s X-Men film. One can assume, considering the importance of such a role, that the actor will appear in both movies. Thanks to the actor’s official Instagram account, McAvoy went to heavily tease his involvement in both films:

Dinner last night with the man who’s in a multi generational three way relationship with two professors.thanks for dinner @simondavidkinberg and @hutch.parker ,I can’t wait for the summer.

Now, is McAvoy taking part in both new chapters of the X-Men franchise? After three fantastic performances in the role, one can only hope so. The actor has enjoyed a pretty great start to the year, as his film, Split, has become one of the highest grossing pictures already, making $194 million against a budget of $9 million. Not too bad, huh?

What do you guys think? Would you like to see McAvoy return to the franchise in both outings? Personally, I love his interpretation of Professor X, so the more McAvoy, the better. The next X-Men film is rumoured to retell the Dark Phoenix Saga, a story that was (kinda) adapted in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand.

Split is in theatres now
