Fox Chairman Says Execs Worried ‘Logan’ Would Be “Freakin’ Boring”

I am more fearful of awful than boring.I would love to be wrong on this occasion. Here’s hoping. REC

We are less than a month away from the release of the final installment in the Wolverine franchise, Logan, with Hugh Jackman putting those claws on one more time. As the recent trailers have made it very clear, Logan will be quite different from its two previous installments, with X-Men Origins: Wolverine and The Wolverine, in terms of its tone and more. During a Q&A at the Recode Media conference last night, 20th Century Fox Film chairman Stacey Snider admitted that there were concern from FOX executives about the film’s darker tone.

“Inside, there was real consternation about the intensity of the tone of the film. It’s more of an elegy about life and death. The paradigm for it was a Western, and my colleagues were up in arms. It’s not a wise-cracking cigar-chomping mutton-sporting Wolverine, and the debate internally became, isn’t that freakin’ boring? Isn’t it exciting to imagine Wolverine as a real guy and he’s world-weary and he doesn’t want to fight anymore until a little girl needs him?”

“In the near future, a weary Logan (Hugh Jackman) cares for an ailing Professor X (Patrick Stewart) in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young Mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.”

James Mangold’s Logan, starring Hugh Jackman as Logan/Wolverine, Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier/Professor X, Richard E. Grant as Zander Rice, Boyd Holbrook as Donald Pierce, Stephen Merchant as Caliban, Dafne Keen as Laura Kinney, along with Eriq La Salle, Elise Neal and Elizabeth Rodriguez, opens in theaters on Friday, March 3.

Are you looking forward to see Jackman as the iconic Marvel mutant one last time on the big screen in the last installment? Sound off in the comments below.
