Dominic Cooper Shares Preacher Pic, Teases Gutsy Start to Season Two

The first season of AMC’s “Preacher” gave us Annville, Arseface, and brought the band together — so to speak. Given the season one finale, it’s a pretty safe assumption that we can expect season two of the series to take the show on the road. With filming for the sophomore season of “Preacher” already underway, star Dominic Cooper marked the occasion in a suitably gruesome fashion.

It looks like the over-the-top violence  that fans expect from Jesse Custer and company will remain a staple in season 2. Perhaps we’re looking at Cassidy’s (Joseph Gilgun) handiwork? Regardless, the season one finale laid waste to the town of Annville, nearly all of its inhabitants, and Quentin Quincannon (Jackie Earl Haley). That final episode also made it clear that season one was essentially a prequel to the celebrated comic book series from Garth Ennis and the late Steve Dillon.

The photo from Dominic Cooper certainly appears to confirm that Jesse, Cassidy, and Tulip (recent Oscar nominee Ruth Negga) are indeed hitting the road in a quest to find God. The bigger question is who will serve as the big bad for the second season? The Saint of Killers (Graham McTavish) is still in play, and showrunner Sam Caitlin has already confirmed that Herr Starr — a fan favorite villain who has yet to be officially cast — will play a big part in season two (via Deadline). But, “Preacher” was teeming with outlandish villains over the course of its 60 issue run, so there’s plenty of fodder.

The AMC series comes from executive producers Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Sam Caitlin. Based on the DC Vertigo comic book series from Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, it follows Dominic Cooper‘s Jesse Custer, a preacher who, with the help of Joseph Gilgun‘s Irish vampire Cassidy, goes on a mission to find God. No premiere date has been announced, but look for AMC’s “Preacher” to air sometime in mid-to-late 2017.
