Del Toro Will Meet With Perlman and Mignola About Hellboy 3

Guillermo del Toro excited “Hellboy” fans on Wednesday with the promise that if his informal Twitter poll received 100,000 votes, he would sit down with Ron Perlman and Mike Mignola to discuss a long hope-for third film. This morning the results are in — and while the filmmaker won’t make any promises, there’s at least hope for the franchise faithful.

Del Toro, who wrote and directed 2004’s “Hellboy” and 2008’s “Hellboy: The Golden Army,” revealed the poll crossed the 100,000-vote threshold — it finished with about 115,000 “yes” votes — which means there will be a meeting with franchise star Perlman and Hellboy creator Mignola.

We have gone past the 100K votes. I will arrange the sitdown w Ron & Mignola to talk HBIII. No gurantee but we will discuss. Wish us luck!!

Fans, and Perlman himself, have been begging for another sequel since the premiere of “Hellboy II: The Golden Army.” Although Perlman was long optimistic about the chances for a third “Hellboy” film, he finally conceded last year that it will “probably never happen.” “We don’t talk about that anymore,” he said in October, referring to del Toro, “Because he’s busy, and I’m busy. Maybe one day he’s going to call and say, ‘Hey, let’s do it.’ But for right now? We’re happy discovering new worlds to conquer.”

Mignola seemed similarly resigned to the franchise’s fate, saying in May 2016, “Occasionally there are still some discussions about film or TV, but I’ll believe it when I see it.”

Now, however, the three apparently will at least meet about “Hellboy 3.” Although nothing may come of the discussion, del Toro seems to still be interested in the project.
