Batman Film Does Not Have Set Start Date Yet, Says Affleck

Ben Affleck has some big black shoes to fill. The Oscar-winning actor/writer/director won over even the staunchest critics in last year’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” (even if the film itself didn’t) and he’ll don the cowl again this November for “Justice League,” but he’s making even more headlines with his “Batman” standalone film.

Affleck spoke to USA Today about juggling his new role in the world of mega-blockbuster franchises while still pursuing other projects like his recent gangster flick “Live By the Night,” saying, “Superhero movies get the level of attention that is nothing like any film I’ve done. You cast the 14th lead in these movies and the Internet goes crazy… I understand and embrace that. That’s part of the pressure that comes with doing it. That’s why I am not going to do it, unless I really feel confident about it.”

Affleck also reaffirmed that he’ll be Batman on his own terms, even if it causes a potential delay in the film’s release. Affleck said that there’s still no starting date for production his “Batman” film and that he’s still working on the script. However, if and when production does start, the Boston native isn’t under any illusions about the scrutiny he’ll be under. “When that day comes, should that day come, I’m sure that’s going to be the most pressure, the most stress I have ever experienced in my professional life,” he says. “There’s no doubt.”

“Chief among the challenges of doing ‘Batman,’ will be finding a suit that’s more comfortable,” he added.

In addition to directing and starring in the Batman film, Affleck is writing the screenplay with DC Entertainment President and COO Geoff Johns. “The Batman” also stars Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon and Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke.
