‘Thor’: Natalie Portman Is Open To Returning To The MCU

One of the women in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Dr. Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman who appeared in the first Thor films. However since Thor: The Dark World, Jane hasn’t appeared in any other MCU films and it doesn’t seem like she is coming back for the third installment of that franchise, Ragnarok, which opens in November 2017.

In a recent interview with Peter Hammond of Deadline, she chatted about being part of franchises like Marvel and Star Wars. When talking about that aspect, Portman went in length about the joy of getting to be part of franchises like that that has such huge followings.

“It is amazing to get to make movies that become part of so many people’s imaginations because it really is so widespread and now having a little boy too, you really see how much this becomes part of play and imagination and your internal life as a kid. It is really an incredible thing to get to be part of. As an actor it is like a completely different scale. Because when you are making those movies you are working with so much blue screen and so much fantasy, your imagination has to be so much larger.

It is really challenging for me that and I don’t feel like I have gotten it yet. I don’t feel like I have understood it yet. It is something that I’m fascinated by, because I’m really challenged by it more than anything almost. Because when you are in a room that looks like a room and has all the things a room has in it, you can interact with all that stuff, and all that stuff does what it does in life. You don’t have to imagine anything. You are just in the emotional state of your character. When you are doing those blue screen movies, you have to imagine everything outside and within. You have to create the whole world. It is like being a kid again.”

Before the interview was over, Hammond asked Portman if she would be open to return to the MCU one day and it looks like she is quite open to returning to the world of Marvel someday.

“Yeah well hopefully one day I figure it out! [laughs]”

Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok , starring Chris Hemsworth (Star Trek) as Thor, Tom Hiddleston (Crimson Peak) as Loki, Cate Blanchett (Lord of the Rings) as Hela, Tessa Thompson (Creed) as Valkyrie, Idris Elba (Luther) as Heimdall, Anthony Hopkins  as Odin, Jeff Goldblum (Independence Day) as Grandmaster, Karl Urban (Star Trek) as Skurge and Mark Ruffalo (Foxcatcher) as Bruce Banner/Hulk, opens in theaters on November 3, 2017. The film was written by Stephany Folsom and Mark Mothersbaugh is set to compose it.
