Confirming earlier reports, Ryan Reynolds has indicated that “Deadpool 2” may include the Marvel Comics character and X-Force team member Domino, in addition to the gun-totting cybernetic mutant Cable. According to the star, neither part has been cast, even though production on the film is set to begin very shortly.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Reynolds confirmed that “Deadpool 2” is “about to move into production,” in addition to noting that the film is “looking at” adding Domino to its cast. Reynolds noted that casting for the part of Cable is still underway.

Contenders for Domino reportedly include Mackenzie Davis (“Halt + Catch Fire”), Kelly Rohrbach (“Baywatch”), Ruby Rose (“Orange is the New Black”), Eve Hewson (“The Knick”), Lizzy Caplan (“Masters of Sex”), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (“10 Cloverfield Lane”), Sienna Miller (“American Sniper”), Sofia Boutella (“Star Trek Beyond”), Stephanie Sigman (“Spectre”), and Sylvia Hoeks (“Overspel”).

Reynolds also praised helmer David Leitch (“John Wick”), saying he “really understands those Deadpool sensibilities and where we need to take the franchise from here,” and that the director know how to “make a movie on an ultra tight minimal budget look like it was shot for 10-15 times what it cost.”

Producer Simon Kinberg also weighed in on the sequel, saying the “biggest mandate” is to “resist the temptation to make it bigger in scale and scope.”

Kinberg said, “The goal for us when we sat down and started talking about it was it needs to be as provocative and startling as the first film which means it can’t just be a continuation of the first film. It has tonally and stylistically be as fresh and original. That’s a big challenge especially because they had 10 years to gestate on the first movie and we don’t have that kind of time on the second movie.”

“Deadpool 2” is expected to start filming in 2017 and open in 2018.
