From Sorcerer Supreme to Box Office Supremacy:)

Some time ago I had declared that if Marvel could make something as “niche market” and bizarre as “Dr. Strange” into a success, they would be unstoppable. Apparently, this is so. Quoting Stan Lee with joyous glee, “It’s all getting made!” when asked not too long ago what characters/story lines were upcoming with Marvel/Disney studios:) REC

‘Doctor Strange’ Passes ‘Iron Man’ As Marvel’s Highest-Grossing Single Character Debut

In its first month, Doctor Strange has surpassed $616 million worldwide in ticket sales, which has already beaten Iron Man by $31 million. Iron Man‘s entire run brought in $585 million.

Iron Man has knocked out Ant-Man, the previous second place holder, which brought in $518 million. Although Doctor Strange now holds the record within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, way back in 2002 Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man (produced by Sony) set the still unbroken record for a Marvel inspired single character debut at $822 million. If Doctor Strange keeps up in the direction it’s been going, we will most likely see it pass evenSpider-Man.

Although Iron Man has been bested, its sequels Iron Man 2 and Iron Man 3 brought in $624 million and an insane $1.2 billion respectively. If this trend continues, Doctor Strangesequels are bound to make a fortune.

Dr. Stephen Strange’s (Benedict Cumberbatch) life changes after a car accident robs him of the use of his hands. When traditional medicine fails him, he looks for healing, and hope, in a mysterious enclave. He quickly learns that the enclave is at the front line of a battle against unseen dark forces bent on destroying reality. Before long, Strange is forced to choose between his life of fortune and status or leave it all behind to defend the world as the most powerful sorcerer in existence.
