JAMES GUNN DIRECTED STAN LEE’S NEXT FOUR MARVEL CAMEOS

We learned last month that Stan Lee had filmed four Marvel Studios cameos in a single day, but now we know who was behind the camera for the near-superhuman feat: “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” director James Gunn.

Perhaps we should’ve guessed as much, as filming took place over the summer at Pinewood Atlanta Studios, where Gunn shot the sequel to 2014 hit, but “Doctor Strange” director Scott Derrickson has confirmed as much to Entertainment Weekly.

“James shot four cameos with Stan in one day,” he said, revealing that Gunn checked in to make sure his met Derrickson’ standards. “James was texting me the frame. Does this look right? Does this look good?

Given Marvel Studios’ release schedule, it’s presumed the 93-year-old Lee filmed scenes not only for “Doctor Strange” and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” but also “Spider-Man: Homecoming” and “Thor: Ragnarok.”

“They’re all awesome! They’re all totally different,” Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said last month about Lee’s cameos. “And he was unbelievable. He was on fire. He came in, he sat here, he stood there, he stood in this window, and then he went home.”

Lee’s history of Marvel cameos dates back to the 1989 TV movie “The Trial of the Incredible Hulk.” Since then he’s appeared in more than two dozen films based on Marvel Comics characters. He’ll next be seen in “Doctor Strange,” which opens Nov. 4.
