Samuel L. Jackson isn’t known to mince words, and he certainly didn’t hold back when asked about the online animosity between fans of Marvel and DC Comics movies.

“Success breeds contempt,” the actor initially offered in his simple, if cutting, observation to Collider while promoting Tim Burton’s “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.”

Following some banter about how Marvel Studios seems to be more successful in adapting comics to film, Jackson struck a more conciliatory note, saying he thinks there’s room for both camps to find an audience. “Hopefully ‘Wonder Woman’ will be great too … I hope it’s good.”

Jackson then concluded by saying, “Hopefully they’ll make one of those movies [that are good and successful] one of these days and it will be as big as a Marvel movie.”

A Marvel Studios veteran, Jackson debuted as S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Nick Fury in 2007’s “Iron Man,” and went on to reprise the role in “Iron Man 2,” “Thor,” “Captain America: The First Avenger,” “The Avengers,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and “Avengers: Age of Ultron” (with a cameo on ABC’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”). He’ll don the eye patch again in “Avengers: Infinity War.”

“Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children” is in theaters now.
