Now that Vampire Diaries grew old and died, CW must feed.

The Vampire Diaries is getting staked by DC Comics’ The Flash and CW is looking to suck some life out of old classics. The good news is that the 1987 vampire teen classic comedy horror The Lost Boys is getting a second life, or undeath, as a TV series. The bad news is that it’s on CW, which puts a CW kind of gloss over everything. But in this case the network has an interesting concept: by the time the show is in its last season, the present will have caught up with the past.

The first season of The Lost Boys will be set in in San Francisco in 1967. The Los Angeles band The Doors, whose poster decorates the strange scenes inside the original film’s vampire cave, just put out their “People Are Strange” single.  Every season subsequent season will be set in a different decade. The final seventh season will feature the characters in a contemporary 2020s setting.

Rob Thomas, who created Veronica Mars and iZombie, will be the showrunner, writer and executive producer through his Spondoolie Productions, along with Danielle Stokdyk, Dan Etheridge, Mike Karz and Bill Bindley.

Warner Bros. Pictures’ The Lost Boys starred Jason Patric and Corey Haim as two brothers who are close enough to let each other know when they have bad breath. Kiefer Sutherland served rice. The movie also starred Corey Haim Jami Gertz, Dianne Wiest, Edward Herrmann, Alex Winter, Jamison Newlander, Barnard Hughes and featured ripped sax man Tim Cappello.

The Lost Boys joins The Exorcist as the newest horror classics to be adapted for the small screen. CW will premiere a movie remake of Frequency this year. The Vampire Diaries last season will premiere on October 21.
