Jonah Hill Doesn’t Think “21 Jump Street”/”Men in Black” Crossover Will Happen

If Sony’s “21 Jump Street”/”Men in Black” crossover seemed too good — or too strange — to be true, it may be with good reason. Not even “Jump Street” star Jonah Hill thinks the movie will ever happen.

“I had the idea,” Hill told the Toronto Sun, “but I doubt that movie will get made.”

Tentatively titled “MiB23,” talk of the project was first revealed in December 2014 in leaked emails from the Sony hack. The studio even teased the film in April at CinemaCon, with James Bobin (“The Muppets”) reportedly in line to direct.

In the crossover, Hill and Channing Tatum’s characters from the “Jump Street” franchise would’ve met younger versions of Agent Jay and Agent Kay from “Men in Black.” Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones would not have reprised their roles. However, Hill acknowledges the concept is simply “too complicated.”

“They’re trying to make all the deals, but it’s kind of impossible with all the ‘Men in Blackstuff,” he said. “The ‘Jump Street’ films were so fun to make and the whole joke of them was they were making fun of remakes and sequels and reboots and then now it’s become a giant sequel, reboot. It’s almost become what we were making fun of and it’s hard to maintain that joke when it’s so high stakes.”
