While many fans hoped Netflix could revive“Agent Carter,” the streaming service never pulled through for the project. The reason? Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos says it was because the show didn’t offer a “truly original” brand.

“We’re looking for truly original brands to own,” Sarandos told Entertainment Weekly, “and in that Marvel space we already have [original comic book shows] – so that was mostly why.”

It seems the existing Marvel Comics-based Netflix shows — “Daredevil,” “Jessica Jones,” and the upcoming “Luke Cage,”“Iron Fist” and “The Defenders” — are enough for Netflix at the moment.

Plus, Sarandos says there are “complexities” with “Agent Carter’s” international distribution, which would make it difficult for Netflix to carry the series in certain regions. “They also have some output deal complexities…So when you pick it up, being able to pick it up globally is difficult even after it’s canceled. Some of those output partners still had it on the air, so they would argue its covered by their output [deals]. Unfortunately, it was a business decision more than a creative one.”

It seems this is the last we’ve seen of “Agent Carter” — at least in the form that we know the series — for the foreseeable future…
