COMIC REEL: JESSE QUICK RETURNING TO “THE FLASH,” SONY RUMORED TO EYE “SILVER SABLE” FILM

Of all of these updates, the Silver Sable announcement is the most provocative and out of left field. One would think a Black Widow would track for release beforehand but having a female fronted film by this long time MCU character wouldn’t be a bad thing and would certainly get my ticket purchase. Here’s hoping. REC

THE FLASH

Actress Violett Beane, who plays Earth-2 Harrison Wells’ daughter Jesse, will be back for Season 3 of “The Flash.” When asked whether she’ll play Earth-2 Jesse or another version of the character, Beane said, “[I] could be Earth-1 Jesse, [I] could be a speedster, who knows.”

TVLine reports that Beane is excited about the prospects of becoming the comic book version of Jesse Quick, but that she’s not sure whether she’ll have powers in Season 3. “When Jesse got hit, I was like ‘It’s happening! It’s happening!’ There was the spark when she got out of the coma, but… it didn’t happen, and I was like, ‘No!’ I’m very excited and would love for it to happen early next season.”

Her TV dad, Tom Cavanagh, is also returning for Season 3 as a series regular, but there’s been no word yet as to who he’ll play, especially now that “Flashpoint” is officially happening.

Returns this fall

SILVER SABLE

Sony is rumored to be developing a female-led Spider-Man spinoff based on Marvel’s Silver Sable. According to Meet the Movie Press, the project was previously in the works, but the studio scrapped those plans when it struck a deal with Marvel Studios to reboot the Spider-Man franchise. Now, apparently, the Silver Sable movie is back on the table, with “Shame” screenwriter Abi Morgan providing the script.

In Marvel comics, Silver Sablinova is an antiheroine who hunts war criminals with a group of mercenaries called the Wildpack. Her work occasionally brings her to New York City, where she crosses paths with Spider-Man.

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP

“Ant-Man” director Peyton Reed confirmed that Evangeline Lilly won’t be a supporting character in “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” but rather will co-star alongside Paul Rudd. “To show her finally fully formed in this movie is really exciting,” he told Modern Myth Media. “We really get to introduce this character into that universe. I mean we’ve introduced the character, but we haven’t seen her with her full power set and everything, so to me she’s not a supporting character in this movie. It’s every bit as much her movie as it is Scott Lang’s.”

“It’s something we’re excited about,” he continued. “For me as a comic nerd, I always thought of ‘Ant-Man and Wasp’ as a team and that’s a lot of what the second movie is really about is how they work together, what their personal and professional relationships are like.”

In theaters July 2018

SUICIDE SQUAD

“Suicide Squad” director David Ayer has confirmed that the government task force behind the Suicide Squad is A.R.G.U.S. He tweeted a photo this week revealed a prop from the film: a badge featuring the A.R.G.U.S. logo and the words “Non-human Entity Joint Combat Operations.”
