Here’s a crazy thought, get Henry Cavill to appear connecting the small screen with the big screen and getting a @#$% ton of viewership…..or don’t…. Realistically, Tom Welling would work as well;) REC

Superman is about to step out of the shadows on “Supergirl.”

Warner Bros. TV has officially announced that the Man of Steel will appear on the first two episodes of “Supergirl’s” second season. Casting is under way for the iconic role.

“Greg [Berlanti], Ali [Adler] and I are beyond thrilled to welcome Clark Kent and his slightly-more-famous alter ego to the world of ‘Supergirl,'” Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg said in a statement. “Superman will be appearing in the first two episodes of the new season and we cannot wait to see who next dons the red cape!”

There are no details yet on the nature of Superman’s guest appearance, other than he’ll be visiting his cousin Kara in National City. At the end of the show’s first season, a Kryptonian pod crash-landed on Earth, so it’s a reasonable guess that Superman’s role might involve that.

Superman has been a major presence throughout “Supergirl,” with Melissa Benoist‘s title character and others — namely Mehcad Brooks‘ James Olsen — closely linked to the famous DC Comics hero. Yet, hile he’s been frequently mentioned, his on-screen appearances had been limited to a fleeting, obscured, dialogue-free image in the pilot — something that will change in a big way with the show’s new season.

Most observers had ruled out the possibility of a Superman appearance due to the character’s prominence in Warner Bros.’ DC Films franchise, where he’s played by Henry Cavill. This take on Superman is separate from any previous films, with Kreisberg telling HitFix in October, “It’s not the Christopher Reeve version. It’s not the Henry Cavill version. It’s a version of Superman and what he has gone through in the world that we live in and the things that he’s faced and what’s happened to him vis-a-vis how it reflects on Kara is all our invention.”

When asked about the possibility of a Superman appearance in an April interview with The Hollywood Reporter, “Supergirl” Executive Producer Ali Adler was vague: “Right now, we’re just telling Supergirl’s story. We’ll see where that takes us.”

Could Tom Welling’s CBS Deal Lead to a “Super” Return?

Although casting remains to be revealed, some fans and outlets — including CBR — have raised the possibility of Tom Welling, who starred as Clark Kent for 10 years on “Smallville,” playing the role. That remains pure speculation, but “Supergirl” has shown a deep commitment to hiring actors involved in the past Super-projects, including “Supergirl” movie star Helen Slater, former “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman” star Dean Cain and Laura Vandervoort, Supergirl on “Smallville.”

“Supergirl” Season 2 will debut this fall on The CW.
